The Pantiles

In 1700 the Upper Walks were laid with "pantiles" which were used to pave the Upper Walks.  The paving installed there comprised one-inch thick square tiles made from heavy wealden clay, so named because they were shaped in a wooden pan before firing.  The Potteries is believed to be sited where the kiln was located.

The Potteries actively supporting the Pantiles' hospitality venues, independent shops and theatres in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
